Summer, to Simone: A Crossword Conundrum

This week’s crossword puzzle threw me for a loop! I’m usually pretty good at deciphering the clues, but one in particular had me stumped. It was a 7-letter word, and the clue simply read: “Summer, to Simone.”

Now, I know Simone isn’t a common name in crossword puzzles, so I immediately started thinking about what kind of relationship she might have with the season. Was she a renowned summer solstice expert? An Olympic swimmer? Maybe even a weatherwoman with a knack for predicting the perfect beach day?

But none of those angles seemed to fit. The clue felt too simple, too direct. It was almost as if the puzzle-maker was trying to throw me off with a red herring.

So, I decided to take a different approach. I started brainstorming all the possible connections between Simone and summer. Perhaps it was a specific event she always looked forward to? And guess what? They did! But the answer wasn’t what I expected at all. It was a word that, in retrospect, should have been obvious. I felt a mix of frustration and relief. Frustration for not getting it myself, but relief for finally understanding the puzzle-maker’s clever intent.
