“See 48-Across” – A Clue That Demands You Look Up!
Have you ever encountered a crossword clue that left you scratching your head, muttering “What in the world does that mean?”? This week, I stumbled upon a particularly perplexing clue – “See 48-Across“.
This isn’t your average crossword clue. It’s a direct command to the solver, demanding they consult another entry in the grid. It’s like the crossword equivalent of a “jump to page” instruction in a book!
Now, the obvious question is: what do you
do
when faced with such a clue? Do you simply ignore it and hope the answer comes to you later? Do you frantically search through the grid for the answer to 48-Across, only to find yourself even more confused?
My initial instinct was to go with the latter – to dive headfirst into the grid and try to unravel the mystery. But, after a few minutes of staring blankly at the puzzle, I realized this approach wasn’t working. Instead, I took a step back and tried a different strategy.
And it worked!
