Night before Christmas or New Year’s Day
The Night Before… What?
Ah, the joys of a holiday crossword! There’s something extra satisfying about solving a puzzle themed around the festive season. But sometimes, those clues can be real head-scratchers.
This week, I stumbled upon a particularly tricky clue that left me stumped for far too long. It was a simple 7-letter word, but the definition was incredibly vague. It simply read: “
The night before Christmas or New Year’s Day.
”
My mind immediately went to the obvious choices: Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. But that felt too easy. Surely there was something more clever, something more hidden within the wording. I spent the next hour trying every synonym for “night,” every word related to the holiday season, even attempting to find a common denominator between Christmas and New Year’s Day. No luck.
Finally, I decided to take a break. I brewed a cup of hot cocoa, put on some festive tunes, and tried to clear my mind. Suddenly, the answer hit me like a snowball to the face. It was so simple, so obvious, that I couldn’t believe I had missed it.
